  • My experience

I visited Kassandra for the first time 2 years ago. I was impressed from the
liveliness of the city and also from the beautiful scenery that combines mountains and beach , all in the same picture.
The next year I visited Marmara and was amazed from the crystal clean waters .I have never seen anything like this. I have traveled to many beaches around the world and trust me ,you will find some of the best beaches you have ever seen.

  • I have travelled to many parts of Greece for the last 25 years, However, I have been to Hanioti 3 times, I will be back there this year May 2006 with some of my Family (8)usually we stay at Lakis studios, unfortunatley Portland Direct no longer use these appartments. I have no idea why? as we have had so much fun there in the past. The staff were excellent and made us feel very welcome, as a regular there every one in shops and restuarants welcome me back all the time it`s a lovely feeling. I will be staying at Angelos in May!!!! Everyone must go to the spud restuarant it`s only small but the spuds are massive, also we use most of the time erodious fantastic yum, yum you will get your monies worth there and very freindly too. The big Chinese is excellent not to be missed. The beaches are fantastic loads of pebbles but the water in clear and clean, (watch out for gelly fish!!) I give 10/10 for hospilality and freindlyness. A lifetime experience never to be forgotten.

  • I love this country and the people there so much. I came here the first time when I was 13. Now I am 46 and still go there. I even passed the "Greece Bug" on to my husband and my son. My best friends live there and they are for life. I wish I could live there and never have to go back.

  • The best tavern in Pefkohori Fox Naoussa on the beach front. Great food and service. Ask for Savvas and Petra they are the owners. Thanks to them I spend best holidays ever.

  • A nightmarish holiday hotel in PARADISE BAY HANIOTI. Since 2006 we've been up twice a year on holiday in Halkidiki. Every year super excited, I got to know almost every hidden corner of the two arms. This year I made the big mistake of taking me by the recommendation of friends and I take two weeks for tickets to Paradise Bay hotel in Hanioti. A pigsty with the hotel name. A mess of building with a courtyard and a swimming pool crammed into tiny 1000mp up without a garden, a few meters from the main road where they can hear the cars all night and motorcycles passing through the area ...
And fun to be wonderful, and I was surprised by the meal plan. In Paradise Bay, besides the fact that conditions are all hurt, and make an infected food, which is not even far in the bartender as presented in the offer to all agencies. The evening buffet is just the salad, the only kind of meat that is offered daily is made with a portion of the bulgar girl. Portion are not more than 100 grams. I called the agency represented that I got my tickets, I called the hotel manager on Yanis and I explained to them that are not hungry, but I paid a buffet and I want to give me even if the quality of canteen food and the way serving leaves a lot to be desired. I mean on an area of maximum 10SM which food is exposed is jammed every day, morning and evening around 150 people.
Often do not get meals and those who took food with plates sit in the waiting arms of a free lunch. Very polite, the hotel manager explained to me that it serves only one piece of meat is not a booty that leaves many in the food dishes - no wonder how the food is bad - and if you still want a May piece of meat, as these have done it first I can put back in line and to ask a piece ... I came to believe, I felt like in the army when asking supplement dessert: black bread with Marmalade and after eating once put me in line ... The first night I thought I do with nerves, I was thinking that's a hell of waiting two weeks to go under them.
So, the table were as follows: morning, but every morning a parizer oxidized with slices of cheese and sometimes instead of Feta cheese, hard-boiled eggs - mostly cold slices of cucumber -- in one day was tomato, yoghurt, stewed peaches, crackers sometimes up to 9 o'clock, after he could no longer catch, honey, feathers, an orange juice from concentrate, water, milk made from condensed milk to preserve, tea, coffee ... the evening: a couple kinds of salad, with greens and pickles, boiled potatoes with the spice of the pot, or puree in flakes, or rice, or pasta, beans or low, or zucchini in the oven, that not all the rotation in one evening with a piece of meat about 50-100gr. The meat was either pork, beef, chicken or run over by all these turns, so if someone can not eat beef or fish, bad luck, I should not eat meat. In two weeks was not given a soup or soup of the evening!
The rooms are small and crowded, the bathroom is very little, toilets is almost glued to the wall, so that you can not just sit on it in one hand, metal beds scartaie every time they come back in, what's not as ... you go there or to receive 20 euros per person per day ... not to pay!
And every Wednesday is Greek night, another game to beat you until 1 o'clock at night. There comes a band formed by two guys who accompany the hotel owner, and a fat woman. Razvan any type of bar in May to break a few dishes to one of the Greek note series.
In conclusion Beware of this hotel! Travel will be your nightmare! Better stay home than to go on holiday to Paradise Bay. Unfortunately everywhere in Halkidiki start feeling like you're in Paralia Katerini.

  • I have been in the area here since 2000. I like Chalkidiki very much, in particular Sithonia. What made it so attractive. The beautiful landscape, a mix of hills, woods and the sea; the incredibly clear turquoise water. But then a fire destryed large parts of the lovely woods on Kassandra. Now beach bars are mushrooming spoiling the most lovely bays and beaches. Sithonia doesn't have many long stretches of 'white' beaches, and now the ones that exist are disappearing.

Don't the communities realise that many of the foreigners who live here and bring quite a lot of money to this country and many of the tourists who have returned despite comparatively high prices, low quality accommodation (in terms of quality price ratio and service mindeedness), have come just because of these lovely unorganised beaches???
A few places with sunbeds and a frappé are nice for a change but in the last two years too many places have been spoilt!
If you want to be like a sardine on a grill in umpteen rows on a beach you can get cheaper hols or at least better service for the same price anywhere around the world.

Also, if you live here and want to stay for the weekend in a hotel, you are often turned away in the peak season, even if you have been a loyal customer throughout the low seasons. Your firends from abroad can book all inclusive stays including the flight for about the same price or even less than hotel owners think they can charge you when you appear on their door steps. many of my colleagues and friends have been appaled by that. or owners do some kind of auctioning. Who is ready to pay more gets the room...and even if you are ready to pay a fortune you might still be turned away, as even places like Sani prefer waiting for tourists who spend more money than you during the day on drinks
Car rental prices are exorbitant in summer unless you book from abroad. In times of crisis this seems even more unwise than before
Also, people do not seem to have learned from the mistakes in countries like Spain. While Europe is suffering from the crisis, a construction boom is spreading like a disease in villages around Thessaloniki and on Chalkididki.
Places like Nikiti don't stop the b uilding boom but can't keep up with the infrastructure. The you are there without water and roads with potholes that make you think you are somewhere outside Europe
This, plus the deplorable habit of littering the most beautiful spots are a big risk! Cherish the treasures you have! Don't spoil them further! Rather than trying to squeeze out as much money as you can in 2 - 4 months of the year, think of those tourists that come because they cherish what is unique...between September and May it's difficult to find nice places that are open though people might want to go hiking, do bike tours etc
Rather than sending all people round in cars (with cars then parking on the beaches) and getting stuck in endless traffic jams, why not offer shuttle services by boats to other beaches, or boat trips around Kassandra and Sithonia?
And try to make people understand that by littering the beaches and woods they do not just turn people away today, they also poils their kids future!!!

    A CHalkidiki fan
